This study analyzed the characteristics of geometrical and artistic formativeness in modern fashion, focusing on the idea of modernism. Researchers addressed the following specific questions: How can we define formativeness in modern fashion in relation to modern art? What do the terms conceptual modernism and functional modernism mean and how can we reify these concepts in modern fashion? What are the characteristics of geometrical and artistic formativeness? Researchers utilized a qualitative research method, analyzing the work of twelve fashion designers across 89 collections from the 1920s, the 1960s, and following the turn of the 21<SUP>st </SUP>century. To sum up, the characteristics of geometric and artistic formativeness in modern fashion stemmed from Cubism and Neo-Plasticism(conceptual modernism and the De Stijl group respectively) and Constructivism(functional modernism). The characteristics of geometric are abstract flatness, linear forms, two-dimensional in-plane constructs, futuristic forms, structural functionality, and optical space, whereas artistic formativeness is characterized by ambiguity between 2D and 3D, multiple viewpoints, conceptual space, variable functionality, visual dynamics, and ascending structures.
