This study tried to empirically analyze factors affecting the social status enhancement of certified real estate agents in Korea. Based on earlier studies and the present institutional system, questionnaires were developed and certified real estate agents and related practitioners were surveyed to find out ways to reinforce their expertise and professionalism. Factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were implemented.
The results showed that institutional examination systems, education systems and work ethic were significant factors in enhancing social status of certified real estate agents. Therefore, the qualification of examination for licensed real estate agents should be adjusted. The social status of certified real estate agents could be improved by practical methods: biennial examination systems, evaluations based on a curved grade, acceptance rate controls and adding practical subjects to the exams. In addition, it is necessary to provide both certified real estate agents running offices and to those only with licenses with regular institutional refresher training courses. If they do not regularly complete the refresher training courses, then their qualification should be limited and an adequate penalty be imposed. These guidelines will help enhance their professionalism and credibility. The certified real estate agents are required to strictly abide by professional work ethics as well. Their strongly defined professional work ethic will enhance not only social status but public credibility.
