The purpose of this study is to provide base data to demonstrate the reality of taekwondo by analyzing social phenomenon of taekwondo and analyzing this citing recently-issued beach taekwondo as example via voice of taekwondo instructor, education and administration experts. For this, 6 taekwondo instructors and 3 education and administration experts were selected and the awareness on phenomenon of beach taekwondo was analyzed according to study procedure based on collected data by implementing in-depth interview with participants. From the result of study, positive awareness was categorized as the value of public relations, invariance of essence, and change of progressive and negative awareness was categorized as repulsion of change, embarrass of traditionality and sensational aspects.For positive aspect, first, we could know that taekwondo was recognized as an event to be more accessible to the public. Second, they accepted the opinion that clothes or place is not important when the technique of taekwondo is accurately expressed and transmitted. Third, they consider changing conservative image of taekwondo as good phenomenon. While, for negative aspect, first, they recognized the effort of association for communication with the public, but they recognized beach taekwondo as just an event taekwondo. Second, they have negative awareness on the clothes which is not unified for female and undressing top half for male. Third, they have awareness that it might be just a spectacle to the public. In conclusion, based on social change phenomenon theory, taekwondo culture also continuously changes due to new acculturation. The adaptation to these changes is inevitable. Opinions on this social phenomenon may be various, but action study through discussion on this phenomenon should be continuously performed.

본 연구는 최근 이슈가 된 비치태권도를 통해 태권도의 사회현상을 분석하고 이를 해석하여 태권도의 현실을 조명하는 기초자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 태권도 지도자 6명과 교육 및 행정 전문가 3명을 선정 하였으며, 심층면담을 통하여 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 연구절차에 따라 비치태권도의 현상에 대한 인식을 해석하였다. 연구결과 긍정적인 인식으로 홍보가치, 본질의 불변, 진보적 변화라는 범주가 형성이 되었으며, 부정적인 인식으로는 변화 거부감, 전통성 훼손, 선정적 측면이 범주로 나타났다. 긍정적인 부분으로 첫째, 태권도가 대중에게 다가가기 쉽게 해주기 위한 행사로 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 태권도의 기술이 정확하게 표현되고 전달된다면 복장이나 장소는 무관하다는 의견을 수용하고 있었다. 셋째, 보수적인 태권도의 이미지를 변화를 주는 것도 좋은 현상으로 바라보고 있었다. 반면 부정적인 부분으로 첫째, 대중과의 소통을 위해 협회의 노력은 인지하고 있지만 비치태권도는 이벤트성이 강한 행사태권도로 인지하고 있었다. 둘째, 여자는 상하의를 통일되지 않는 복장으로, 남자는 상의를 탈의하는 복장에 대하여 부정적인 인식을 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 대중들에게 구경거리만 될 뿐이라는 인식을 가지고 있었다. 결론적으로 사회변동 현상 이론에 근거하면 태권도 문화도 지속적으로 새로운 문화접변으로 인해 변화한다. 이러한 변화에 대한 적응은 필연적이다. 이러한 사회현상에 대한 의견은 다양하겠지만, 이러한 현상에 대한 담론을 통한 실천연구가 지속적으로 수행되어져야 한다.
