The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between intention of using counseling and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help and whether this relationship is mediated by selfstigma and social stigma among college students. For this purpose, 501 college students in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were surveyed four questionnaires; Intention of using Counseling Scale, Self-Stigma Scale , Social Stigma Scale and Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale. The collected data was analyzed by Pearson"s correlations, regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. As results of this study were summarized as follows. First, the analysis of relationships among intention of using counseling, attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help, self-stigma and social stigma shows that there is a significant positive correlation between intention of using counseling and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help, and a significant negative correlation between intention of using counseling and self-stigma. Second, the analysis on the mediating effects of stigma between intention of using counseling and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help shows that self-stigma partially mediates the relationship of the intention of using counseling and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. The findings of this study provided meaning in that particular search was made for a variable that mediate the relationship of the intention of using counseling service and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. This study suggested that self-stigma is an important variable to enhance counseling service seeking. Finally this study suggested the needs of development about intervention programs of enhancing stigma tolerance to decrease service gap.
