The purpose of this study is to analyze people’s negative experiences related to recreation participants with companion dogs, resulting in the conflict recognition, the emotional response and the influence of the experience on an attitude toward the recreation participants. The result of this study reveals that the recreation conflict is closely associated with people’s emotional response and their attitudes toward the recreation participants with companion dogs. In particular, the recreation conflict has a negative effect on the positive emotional response whereas a positive effect on the negative emotional response. Moreover, the positive emotional response has a negative effect on attitudes of companion dogs and recreation participants with companion dogs but the negative emotional response positively effects on their attitude. At this point the government has made and effort to minimize the conflicts between the recreation participants and non-participants, by separating a part of spaces for the recreation for example expanding playgrounds for dogs. However it is necessary to examine the long-term political approaches linked to the issue: educating recreation participants with companion dogs, conducting a campaign and building more strict regulations. On the one hand, the recreation conflict is characterized as one of persistence and durability, beyond the confine of the recreation situation. Therefore it is essential to consider an in-depth understanding about the recreation conflict, its various factors and innumerable influences. Therefore, future research is expected not only to consider political and long-term approaches of the recreation conflict, beyond the individual dimensions that are limited to personal factors of the recreation participants and the analysis on their behaviors, but also to propose substantial policies and de facto alternatives.
