Second person pronouns often refer to the auditor of a conversation but depending on the characteristics of each language, they could be singular or plural. Also, it sometimes reflects the social relationship between the orator and the auditor. Hence the aspect of the use of second person pronouns do not always have a precisely corresponding relationship between languages but it appears differently in various forms depending on the context of the use of language. This article looks through the pragmatic characteristics of Korean and Chinese second person pronouns ‘너’ and ‘你’ based on the preceding research then aims to understand the aspects of the second person pronouns in Korean and Chinese in practical use of the language through contrastive analysis of the pragmatic characteristics of the two, particularly focusing on the marked and unmarked, definite and indefinite and the anaphora and zero anaphora.
