A reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) was firstly introduced due to the problem for manufacturing companies in meeting with frequently changing demands in a specific period of time. The most crucial issue in achieving optimal RMS is the reconfiguration on the number of its dedicated facility, referred to as Reconfigurable Machine Tools (RMTs), to satisfy the demand by adding or removing the machines required. This reconfiguration process is strictly related to the company budget, time, and space. Several researchers have proposed RMT design, part family optimization and planning by incorporating mathematical model, heuristics, and simulation in their studies. However, in order to physically implement an RMS in the real manufacturing world, manufacturers need to consider an applicable integrated system to optimize the reconfiguration planning process. However the real time operational decision-making for RMSs is limited in literature compared to the production planning problem. With the rise of cyber physical system (CPS) that has been a global issue, many companies or manufacturers are trying to integrate it into their production systems. RMS as well needs to apply CPS in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency so that RP problems can be solved, automated, and controlled. This paper provides algorithm to minimize cost, time, and appropriate planning programs. Therefore, in this paper, an optimization algorithm is proposed for solving reconfigurable planning problem in RMS. The algorithm is developed to calculate the reconfiguration cost and time, analyze the whole operation, and finally evaluate control system design.
