This study is dedicated to the review of guidelines for the architectural planning of Korea military academy dormitory. The guidelines for the dormitory development were first considered by applying Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, with detailed evaluation categories being chosen for each need. Cadets from the Military Academy were asked to evaluate the military academy residences according to the categories chosen. First, the functions of the dormitory were evaluated as the provision of space for rest and recovery, the provision of physical/psychological stability, the formation of sense of belonging and unity, the provision of an environment for forming self-esteem, the preparation of a comfortable study space, the provision of various hobbies, and the provision of a training space for virtuous military officer education according to Maslow’s theory. The results of the cadet evaluation showed that the order of priorities were slightly different to those suggested by Maslow’s theory. Second, the results of investigating the overall satisfaction of dormitory facilities showed that cognition and aesthetic appreciation needed improvement and also in the sense of love and belonging which showed relatively low satisfaction levels. On the other hand, the self-esteem category was evaluated to be the least important, so it is lower in order of priority. Third, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to deduce the factors that affect the overall satisfaction of each need. From this regression analysis factors that should be improved preferentially in future dormitory facilities development were chosen.
