Parody means the comic immitation of a serius literature or artistic work. It shares the mechanism or the form with the original, but differs in the theme. This classic concept of parody is in search for a new meaning within the context of postmodernism, which is the dominating ideology in modern times. One important point in modern theory of parody is that the expression of parody can be as extensive as from an ironic and funny inversion still containing the respect for the original to a contemptuous mockery. Also, parody has a useful ethos derived from the communication between the sign deliverer and the accepter. Another important point is that there must be a "critical distance" from the original which is the object of immitation. In the field of postmodern dance, the concept of parody forms another specific originality. So, This article focuses on parody phenomena in postmodern dance. The parody phenomena in postmodern dance can be considered as the totality of irony, parodox, fun, confusion, pluralism, and absurdity, each of which has been used to describe or criticize the characteristics of the contemporary postmodern dance. Four different works were reviewed : Mark Moms`s $lt;The Hard Nut(1991)$gt;, Maguy Marin`s $lt;Copellia(1993)$gt;, Mat Ek`s $lt;Giselle(1988)$gt;, Matthew Boume`s $lt;Swan Lake(1996)$gt;. Although there are a number of ways of shedding some light on the concept of parody, this article briefly introduces how these four different works explore idea of parody : the disclosure of contemporary human problems, the collage of many different media and technology, the change of dancing movement, and the creative destruction of conventions and the search for freedom.
