Yoon Jo-byeong is one of the best Korean realistic playwrights. This paper deals with the old age plays of Mr. Yoon-〈ㅋㄷㅋㄷ〉, 〈ㄲㄹㄲㄹ〉, 〈ㅉㅅㅉㅅ〉, 〈ㅎㅇㄱ ㅎㄱ〉 in respect of subject and form. At first, in respect of subject, Mr.Yoon’s plays deal with the deep love of husband and wife in the old age. They are live or dead and these plays are set in this world or otherworld, through which reveal the profound love of each other. The title of these plays, ‘ㅋㄷㅋㄷ’ and ‘ㄲㄹㄲㄹ’ which imitate sound of Korean laughter and the humor in his plays reveal the positive attitude to the old age life, too. Secondly, in respect of form, these plays are written in two-hander. Two is the minimum condition of communication and dialogue of two characters are very important in two-hander, so Mr.Yoon’s plays written in two-hander are good to search the various ways of theatrical communication: slow speaking, each character’s incomplete speech to make a whole meaning, communication through monologue and aside, dialogue considering musical effect, dialogue with objet. These experiment of theatrical communication through two-hander can be interpreted as one of the continuous search for the new form of theatre in Mr. Yoon’s plays. Also the subjet of conjugal love and the story of 〈ㅎoㄱ ㅎㄱ〉 reflect the real life of Mr.Yoon, so we can say that Mr.Yoon’s plays reveal the possibility of the existential writing of old-age plays.
