The hydrodynamic forces and moments induced by the vicinity of a bank on a moving ship in confined waters are known as bank effect. In this study, a numerical calculation have been carried out to investigate bank effects induced by surface-piercing as well as submerged banks. Also, the characteristics of hydrodynamic forces acting on a large vessel in the vicinity of a bank are discussed, and the effects of depth and the lateral distance between vessel and bank are estimated.
