The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 5 weeks electrolyte beverage ingestion on cardiac damage index, exercise performance and blood electrolyte concentration during acute exercise in hot environment. Twenty-two healthy males (25.5±3.5 years; 71.6±8.17 kg; 174.9±5.6 cm) participated in this study and were divided into placebo and electrolyte beverage ingestion groups. Electrolyte beverage consisted of minerals extracted from deep sea water. Ingestion group took in this supplement twice a day for 5 weeks. Exercise protocol was conducted on a treadmill running by using Bruce protocol in hot environment. Blood sample were obtained at rest, immediately and 30 min post-exercise. The source variables of blood electrolyte elements were Na+, Ca2+, Mg, K+ and lactate, creatinine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB). The source variables of exercise performance were total exercise time and VO2max. The blood electrolyte concentration didn’t show a significant differences among groups. Also the serum lactate and CK-MB were no significant difference between groups. On the other hand, Both of total exercise time and VO2max were significantly increased in the supplement group compared to the placebo group (p<.05). In conclusion, the effects of electrolyte beverage using deep-sea water is considered to be insufficient on physiological responses during exercise in hot environment.
