The purpose of this study was to investigate the energy flow within and between the segments during the glide kip motion on the uneven bars. 3 elite teen-age girl gymnastics players (age: 11.7±0.6 yrs., height: 147.3±4.5 cm, weight: 33.0±4.6 kg, experience: 2.6±0.6 yrs.) were involved in the data gathering process. Two dimensional cinematographic analysis was used to calculate the variables of energy and mechanical muscle power.
Energies of arm segment was much lower than those of trunk and leg segments. Translational kinetic energy was larger during glide and bend phases while rotational kinetic energy was larger during kip phase. The translational kinetic energy generated during glide and bend phases was changed to rotational kinetic energy during kip phase. Finally this changed translational and rotational kinetic energy was changed to higher potential energy of trunk segment. Except for the beginning part of glide and bend phases, it was shown that total energy of trunk segment was transferred to both arm and leg segments.
Glide kip motion was the mechanism of transferring the translational and rotational kinetic energies of trunk and leg segments generated during glide and bend phases to higher potential energy of trunk segment during kip phase to elevate the trunk segment above the bar.
