This study seeks to understand the perception of empowerment level in relation to other aspects of tourism development dimensions including capacity building, economic benefits, biodiversity conservation and infrastructure development. This study employed a survey to accomplish its objectives. Structured questionnaires were administered to the local people in which 150 households responded. Data were analyzed by using a series of t-test and ANOVA. The results indicate that the group with higher perception on accessibility empowerment has more positive perception on economic benefits and biodiversity conservation while with perception on involvement empowerment, local people with high involvement empowerment have a relatively low positive perception on infrastructure development than the group with low involvement empowerment which have more positive perception on infrastructure development in the region. Therefore, to gain support from local people for tourism development, it is thus important to empower local people so that they can get more access to different tourism related information and education programs in their region.
