Recently, hotel reservation methods are changing. Consumers are increasingly looking at prices in real time with their smartphone based applications, social commerce, etc. Therefore, hotel companies are looking for a variety of marketing methods to attract customers through price and discount rates. Therefore, this study examines hotels’ price and discount rate changes over time based on smartphone applications, analyzes the effects of the hotels’ vertical (hotel rating), horizontal (chain) differentiation on the price and discount rate, and analyzes the moderating effects of the schedule (change the price by the hour). For this purpose, we categorized major hotels in Seoul by rank, chain, and checked the actual price changes by the hour. As a result, the price and discount rates of five-star and chain hotels were higher than the three star and un-chain hotels. Furthermore, the price of the five-star hotels did not fluctuate after 23:00, but steadily declined after 19:00, while the price of three star hotels continuously decreased from 19:00 to 24:00. Price discounts also showed the same results. The results of this study are based on exploratory methods, making them more practical than conventional research. These results expand the area of strategic brand management and hotels are provided practical guidelines for developing price and price discount rate strategies.
