‘Football War’ is a conflict between El Salvador and Honduras, two small Mesoamerican countries, after the match day of three matches in the rankings of the World Cup in Mexico in 1970. It would not be correct that football is the cause unique, but by the matches the grudges accumulated until then were explored.
Thirty-two years later, in 2002 the Korea and Japan World Cup is celebrated. To celebrate the event a Korean writer begins to write a novel. And 100 days before the inauguration she finishes it and publishes it. This novel is exactly the ‘Football War’ that happened in 1969.
Although that area is not known in Korea, the author studies the Latin American history and culture that would be the basis of the ’Football War’, especially Mayan history and mythology, independence and expropriation, and contemporary history. Then combine these factors and complete the work. In addition, we can evaluate that this work contributes to the extension of the genres by the appropriate mixture of sports, Latin American study and literature.
