With the growth of the economy and the improvement of the quality of life, many people invest more and more time and money in their health. Due to its advantages of low cost involvement and its functions as leisure activities as well as socializing opportunities, hiking is becoming more wide spread in the society. Along with the popularity of hiking, the number of accidents in mountains is soaring. Because of the unique nature of the locations, the poor accessibility to the scenes of the accident dictates that we rely more heavily on helicopters as the vehicle of accessing and transporting the victims. It is the advantages of rescue operations using helicopters that the accessibility is high and it is easier to secure the golden time. However, the manuals for rescue operations using helicopters differ significantly among agencies, which are becoming a challenge to the parameters that have to make tough decisions on their own during the operation. The purpose of this study is to develop a decision making aid system which is necessary to select the position of the hoist operation, maneuver, and landing of the helicopter with stability during a mountain rescue operation. By using the topology maps, stock maps, and soil maps, the gradation analysis is performed. The overlapping functions of GIS, the landing positions and the hoist operation positions are calculated. Also, in order to verify appropriateness of the results, aerial photo-mashup and visual analysis were performed. It is our hope that the method suggested in this study may help efficient decision making in mountain rescue operations.
