The purpose of this study is to build up a grounded-theory by which the adaptation process of abused children in a Shelter is understand and explained. The data for analysis are gained mainly from through in- depth interview with participant observation and from key informants who had abused experience.(This study focused the adaptation process of abused children in Shelter 삭제요망). The major finding are as follows (from analysis on the adaptation process of children in Shelter.삭제요망) it was founded that abused children `struggle` to adapt on the Shelter environment, (The study are analysed with grounded theory approach, 삭제요망) one-hundred twenty-two concepts, thirty-three subcategories, and fourteen categories. They showed that the three sub-theme from `the struggle` was difficulties, such as interpersonal relationship and having no hope to live. The strategies of intervening conditions varies according to each Shelter`s atmosphere and individual child. Action or interaction of the children who adapted in Shelter were being alone, striving for getting support from those who are around them, or exploding their emotions. In conclusion, there were some children who settled in Shelter well and plan for the future with hope while some children behave differently inside and outside of Shelter. The result is that children accept the life in Shelter regardless of being positive or not. They consider `Bogumzari` as their Shelter and take those who stay and live together in Shelter as family. This study were classified into categories not-matched, group- oriented, and hopeful type on the ground of `struggling` mean, conditions, strategies, and consequences. The adaptation process of abused children`s in Shelter is also divided into four stages: `no place to go stage`, `desperation stage`, `challenging stage`, and `accept stage`. The study provides evidence that "the atmosphere of Shelter itself" and "depending person" are the helpful factor which facilitate the adaptation. It can be thought that children in Shelter learn the meaning of family through living in Shelter because they showed that they take those who stay in the same Shelter as family member.
