Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, published in June of 2015, is the encyclical letter by Pope Francis which mainly focuses on the ecological issues of this day. The purpose of the paper is to understand the principles of Alfred N. Whitehead’s philosophy of organism and to analyze Laudato Si’ in the light of the philosophy. Moreover, proposing the view of panentheism to understand better for the ecological actions would be the conclusion of this paper. This encyclical letter is offering immediate impassioned sociological calls to action for the unbalanced world, which mainly is caused by anthropologically biased views. Pope Francis makes clear that the anthropological trend of Christianity came from the misunderstandings of the Bible and Tradition and that all creatures have equal value since everything in the world is interconnected. Therefore, an integral approach would be the key to solve the contemporary ecological issue. I employ the concept of Whitehead’s ontological principle as an actual entity which has both the physical pole and mental pole in order to verify that all creatures have equal ontological structures, even though the degrees of the development are different. Also, his concept of the structured society can show the structure of the interconnectivity of all creatures. Laudato Si’ has a similar idea to Whitehead on the God who is living in all creatures and is creating the world continuously. This idea has a long history in the Church from the Bible to contemporary theologist such as Teihard de Chardin and Tomas Berry. The panentheistic idea of organism philosophy can help to explain ecological theology much better than traditional transcendent, the Absolute.
