This study aims to look into the capability of the curriculum(JapaneseⅠ) in developing human capable of satisfying the needs of the times and society, and also of the future society, through foreign language teaching method, second language acquisition theory, and cognitive psychology. Resultingly, it came up with the following proposals.
(1) First, the curriculum should establish a practical goal which students could be able to deal with, rather than including all the ideal contents. Especially the contents of cultural education should be revised, since linguistic behavior culture related to the use of language is more important than any others in language education. Therefore, in case of ‘JapaneseⅠ’, it is suggested to set a goal to develop the linguistic ability first required for communication with Japanese, while focusing on the development of the global citizenship and communication ability with Japanese in ‘JapaneseⅡ’.
(2) Second, ‘JapaneseⅠ’ puts a bigger emphasis on fluency, rather than accuracy. For beginners, it is enough to have the accuracy which is just understandable for native speakers. And the use of input should be emphasized. Input is considered important not only in listening, but also in speaking, reading, and writing.
(3) Third, as talking and writing are fundamentally based in vocabulary and grammar, teaching of these factors are also needed. When practicing the basic expressions for linguistic form or communication, it is important to set up a particular situation or scene. This training will enable a fluent use of the language without time pressure, and to achieve this ability, repeated rehearsals and automation are essential.
(4) Regarding the use of the terms, it is suggested to rephrase the term ‘Seion’ and ‘Dakuon’ as ‘Voiceless sound’ and ‘Voiced sound’, ‘Group 1 2 3 verbs’ as ‘Godan Verb, Ichidan Verb, Irregular Verb’, and ‘Verbal Behavior’ as ‘Verbal Behavior Culture’.
