This study was to investigate the relationship between functional fitness, health-related quality of life and self-related health in the elderly. In a cross sectional study, a total of 389 elderly people(74 men with mean age 73.0±5.4 years and 315 women with mean age 71.3±4.8 years) completed baseline measurements. Weight, body mass index, percent body fat were measured according to a standardized protocols. Functional fitness including strength, flexibility, endurance and dynamic balance was measured in accordance to a standardized fitness assessment manual. Health-related quality of life(EQ-5D) and subjective health status(EQ- 5Dvas) were used to assess quality of life level and status. The results of this study showed significant linear decreases in mean age(p<.001), body weight(p=.040) and significant linear increases in EQ-5D index(p=.041) and EQ-5D vas(p=.045) across incremental physical fitness levels. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that low body strength(p<.001), endurance(p<.001) and dynamic balance(p<.001) were significant and independent predictors of EQ-5D index and EQ-5D vas in this study population. In summary, the current findings of the study suggest that the regular physical activity of elderly has positive effects on maintaining and improving of physical fitness, this is important role in the prevention of obesity and sarcopenia. In particular, the results of the above in order to improve the health-related quality of life, it is necessary to develop a program into account the effective physical activity.
