The purpose of the present study is to analyze the effects of swimming exercise on the changes in body weight total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)and triglyceride (TG) of the normal dieted normal mice and normal dieted hyperlipidemic (LDLr -/-) nice and to provide son basic data for the prevention and cure of hyperlipidemia For this study, forty-eight 8wk-old female Inbred C57BL/6J (+, n=12) and hyperlipidemic LDLr -/- (-;Low Density Lipoprotein receptor deficiency, n=12) mice were assed to the following groups:(L+, L+ex), (L-, L-ex).Mice were swum for 8wk in the bath after adapt themselves to new circumstances for two weeks. Mice in the laboratory were controlled to keep in the indoor temperature at 22+l℃ and set time put on and out lights (A.M. 7:00, PM 7:00) under condition of SPF (Specific Pathogen Free).Mice were swum for 8 wk, 6 days/wk, 2 times/day during the experimental period in special order manufactured constant temperature water bath with automatic temperature sensor. The weight of subjected mice were measured 1 time/wk during the study. The findings through the above study were analysed from the raw data using statistic packged SAS. The raw data were used for the statistical analysis including ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance). The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. After swimming exercise for 8 weeks, in change of the body weight was significantly difference between exercise groups and sedentary groups in the normal dieted normal mice. Also, in change of the body weight was significantly difference between exercise groups and sedentary groups in the normal dieted hyperlipidemic LDLr -/-. 2. Swimming exercise for 8 weeks, the normal dieted normal mice and hyperlipidemic LDLr -/- mice between exercise groups and sedentary groups was not significantly different in change of total cholesterol. 3. After swimming exercise for 8 weeks, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was not significantly different between groups, but exercise had a positive effect on the normal dieted normal mice and hyperlipidemic LDLr -/- mice. 4. After swimming exercise for 8 weeks, triglyceride was no significantly difference between groups, but swimming had a positive effect on the normal dieted normal mice. In conclusion, in case of hyperlipidemic LDLr -/- mice, it need to soft physical therapy even if normal dieted because of the result of intensive physical therapy was not good compared with normal mice. Through this study, we expect to many-sided about exercise items and the change of quantity and quality of exercise afterwards study.
