The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the job stress of the police on the job attitude comparing security police and auxiliary police. Despite big differences among police divisions, existing studies on the police job stress have neglected those differences. This study is meaningful to take those division differences into account and confine the scope of the study to specific division. In addition, this study deals with auxiliary police in police job stress study as they are very important to deal with increasing assembly and demonstration. In order to examine the effect of the job stress of the police on the job attitude, a survey was conducted to the security police and auxiliary police in the first riot squad of Seoul police agency. The analysis results are as follows. First, it was verified that the effect of job stress of security police and auxiliary police on the job attitude is different with that of general police. Second, it was verified that the security police and auxiliary police have different level of job stress and job attitude. The auxiliary police showed lower level of role excess stress and higher level of role ambiguity stress than those of security police. Meanwhile, the security police showed lower level of job satisfaction and higher level of organizational commitment than those of auxiliary police. Third, it was verified that the effect of job stress of auxiliary police on the job attitude is different with that of security police. In the case of the security police, role excess stress, role conflict stress, and role ambiguity stress had effect on the job satisfaction by order. On the other hand, in the case of the auxiliary police, role conflict stress, role ambiguity stress, and role excess stress had effect on the job satisfaction by order.
