Report Errors
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Alzheimer"s Disease International (ADI) published a report in 2012 that dementia is preferential public health issue in the world. Even though Korea has enlarged dementia-related infrastructure and tried to change of awareness about dementia, effective dementia management system has not been completed. Due to the characteristics of dementia, the role of local environment surrounding dementia patients is important. Also, the preparation of institutional foundation, the definiteness of role, and customized service offer are necessary to construction of effective dementia management system.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the function of dementia management to be carried out with the first place on local communities in order to establish an effective system of dementia management. The research suggests the order of priority using the method of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) in order to analyze preferential performed function and role for effective dementia management system on local community. According to the result of analysis, a focus on the function of management rather than prevention and cure is presently important. It can be necessary to provide the expansion of financial support on local community in terms of dementia management expense, the operation of ward for the elderly with dementia, the activation of dementia rating, and the additional designation of specialized dementia hospital on local community. Also, the improvement of service delivery system through the arrangement of integrated care service for the elderly and the development of standardized manual in Metropolitan Dementia Centers is required for providing the definiteness of role. Ultimately, the care services of dementia for the elderly in conjunction with the resources of local communities may essentially be necessary, which suggests the intensification of the public and private partnership at local government for customized service.
