The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between the acquisition of relative clauses and their relative frequency in the textbooks. First, the survey was conducted to the university students who major or minor in English to find out if its result also corresponded to the accessibility hierarchy by Keen and Comrie(1977) and Gass(1979), and the parallel function by Sheldon(1974). Second, four textbooks commonly used for English language classes in Daejon were examined for the frequency of different pronouns. As expected, the results show that the accessibility hierarchy, the parallel function, and the frequency in acquiring the relative pronouns correlate to each other. (Chungnam National University)
