In Memoriam is one of the best poems by Alfred Tennyson and a kind of the really important long work of the Victorian age. After 17 years, his best friend death, he wrote this work because of missing friend. But this poem is not simply personal monologue about grief of death. It represented a cry of agony, a desperate resistance against the forces of darkness and doubt. Therefore, there are conflicts between faith and doubt, life and death, hope and despair. And he tries to find an answer in religion again and questions of man's immortality and God's presence in the world. Finally the desperate voice turns into a hopeful voice and the poet's doubts are replaced the faith by God's love. Life and death are the same of a flip-side a coin. He has felt God's presence and was able to maintain his faith in Christianity. His real answer is mixed with his religious feeling and belief.
