A central goal of this paper is to present a new account of verb movement phenomena coupled with the recognition of phases CP and v*P under Chomsky’s (2013, 2014) Labeling Algorithm-based derivational system. We claim that the present postulated phases CP and v*P can not be captured in the syntax due to the property of verb movement in which the host X should be affixed to the raised Y, forming an amalgam [Y+X], with rendering the label of XP into that of YP based on the fact that the affix is invisible to the labeling system. Thus, CHL has to recognize the phases as the same labels such as VP-VP and ϕ - features dominant in the shared categories, which is namely interpreted as v*P and CP in the current syntax. Also it is determined that the verb movement is caused by the requirement of verbs’ inflection endings which must be instantiated in the ϕ-feature-shared categories in order for the affix features to be captured in the labeling system.
