Kim`s literature divulges not only the modernity as critique of colonial reality but also form as critique of the modernity. Consequently his cognition on the modernity and his novel have close relevance His will of building the modern subject is ground for the opposite consciousness to colonial organization which denies rationality and reflection. Kim incorrectly thought fascism as pre-modern system. Therefore, to act contrary to it, he needed the principle of modernity as a rational thought and practice. Chosun in 1930`s was, however, the anti-modern age. Therefore, his novels which start from the reality show both inclination to modernity and to critique of the modernity. But Kim didn`t lean on post-modernity, because what he affirmed was the principle of the modernity as good spirits that is progressive critique which had resisted the old regime. In Kim`s literature, the modernity acts on not only the cognitive principle but also the aesthetic principle. So complexity of his literature could be explained through the subjectificaation and modernity. It might be significance of this study.
