The senior market is particularly attractive to the Korean tourism industry as Korea is predicted to become a super-aged society in 2026. However, limited efforts have been devoted to understanding the psychological and behavioral aspects of senior tourists for travel decision-making as well as to providing customized tourism services for seniors. The purpose of this study is to compare the perceptions and behaviors, including benefits sought from the travel experience and constraints, of current(aged 65+, n=136) and upcoming older tourists(aged 55-64, n=476) for thoroughly understanding each segment, since age has been recognized as an important factor in the biological, physical, cognitive, and psychological changes or declines. This study also examines correlation among seniors" life satisfaction, benefits sought, and constraints. Research findings showed that (a) there are distinct age differences in the benefits sought and travel constraints; (b) life satisfaction is correlated with travel participation and most factors of benefits sought and constraints in future older people, but is only correlated with constraint factors in contemporary older adults. The practical and theoretical implications of these findings are discussed.
