The objective of the present research is to explore the structure for exhilaration the members of professional dance companies are likely to experience when performing Korean traditional dance in an attempt to provide basic data for determining the relevance of dance performance with the conditions for and process of adding enthusiasm to their performance as well as the results of their actual experiences and thus to help them motivate to do their best on the stage. The subjects of the research were so selected by means of purposeful sampling out of non-probability sampling that they could properly represent the members of the national and public dance companies across the country and therefore could fully satisfy the requirements of the research. As a consequence, 135 respondents sent their replies to questionnaires and a total of 1,933 statements of them were deemed to be meaningful from the inductive analysis of the replies, which made possible following conclusions: First, the conditions required for the members of professional dance companies to get exhilarated when performing Korean traditional dance turned out to be sense of unity (56.1%) (harmony with the music (25.9%), communication with audience (30.1%) as well as absorption (43.8%) (performance of dancing movements (9.9%), concentration with the work (23.1%) and expression of emotion (7.9%). Second, the grades of exhilaration by the members of professional dance companies could be categorized into trance (37.8%) (explosion of energy (19.5%), impromptu amusement (18.3%), pleasure (32.6%), excitement (32.6%), finding of ego (29.4%) (self-identity (16.8%) and artistic cognition (12.6%). Third, exhilaration experienced by the members of professional dance companies was found to result in the increased ability of their dance performance (61.4%) (change in dance movements (42.9%), understanding to Korean dance (18.4%), emotional development (22.8%) (positive emotion (22.8%) and satisfaction with ability to perform dance (15.7%) (motivation (15.7%).
