Products launched in the market have many technologies and functions. For satisfying various customer-needs, design teams take these features into consideration and it makes product complexity increased. As customer-demands are more diversified, product complexity is increased and it makes the lifecycles of product development, manufacturing, supply chain delayed. It is one of the biggest challenges in various areas. In the product development process, product complexity can be reduced by utilizing product architecture concept. Product architecture concepts are related to components or functions and their interactions in each product. As components and functions are connected as one to one mapping, product complexity can be reduced. Some researchers focused on the measurement of complexity in quantitative ways for managing the product complexity. There are numerous researches suggesting various definitions and measurements of product complexity. In this paper, we focused on the relation between product architecture and product complexity. Structural complexity index related to the graph energy is selected. Components and their connections are modeled as a component-based Design Structure Matrix (DSM). Utilizing this graph energy index, the value of product complexity is calculated. Analysis results are presented.
