This study aimed to examine the factors affecting EFL learners`` communication proficiency and their statistic meaning in correlations between the factors and the proficiency. For this the study surveyed 254 college students and interviewed 10 English professors and 12 EFL learners. The professors named learner``s personality, gender, learner``s necessity and desire, and English exposure as important factors in addition to learners`` self-confidence, motivation, attitudes, and communication apprehension studied in many previous researches. The results showed that self-confidence, attitudes and integrative motivation have positive relations with proficiency and communication apprehension and instrumental motivation have negative relations. Learners`` personality didn``t show significant differences in proficiency, but it affected communication apprehension and attitudes in a significant degree. The main cause of communication apprehension was the lack of confidence especially on their vocabulary and grammar. Female students felt more apprehension and male students showed more positive attitudes toward foreigners, which was against professors`` interview result.
