Pause is an expression aspect of paralanguage that is reflected in speakers` context. A production unit is easily appeared as a segment of intonation but a pause is not easily come out with time unit. In other words it is arbitrarily appeared according to speaker` mental situation. Because it is a core unit for decision of semantic segment and contextual meaning, a pause is became an essential element of semantic decision, The paper is a preliminary investigation considering to this. Especially it investigates of pause in speaking and reading. A pause of speaking is more arbitrary than reading in function, form, and duration. It is used for meaning change, utterance shift, attention etc in oral reading. An educational application of a medium is treated with as a devision of method and content in addition to this.
