The purpose of this study is to analyze the distinctive characteristics of Duyeoksinbang. The book is manuscript. According to the results of the phonological analysis, the book was written between the end of 19th and the early of the 20th century. There are only s-consonant clusters(sk-, st-, sp-, sts-) appeared, but a p-consonant cluster is not appeared in the book. The transcription of `ll(ㄹㄹ)`, `coda s`, and aspirate between vowels is the same phenomenon of Modern Korean. ‘t-palatalization` is complete and there are many `k-palatalization` as dialectal forms. The vowel /i/ is changed to round-vowel /u/ when /i/ is placed behind bilabial consonants, and the aspect of the changing vowel /i/ into /i/ when placed in the back of consonant /s/, /ts/ is spread as a non-standard form. So this book was written after the end of 19th century. There are many rare words which have to be registered in the old word dictionary; `ttagji`(scab), `jista-`(burn), `heosgu-yeog` (vomiturition) `gosabha-`(have trouble urinating), `galbi` (rib-bone), `geosjab-`(finish), `eolgolbyeong`(face disease), `jwigunyeog`(mousehole), `sonnim`(sma1lpox), `nabdui-`(lie flat), `heoltteog-i-`(gasping), `geoseurina-`, `ompagompagha-`(sunk), `mareugu-yeog` (vomiturition). And there are some words in this book which share the same base with the words that are already registered in the dictionary; `ehyeol`(extravasated blood), `jigcha`(the second), `bureom` (ringworm), `omogomgha-`(sunk), `ohwal-i`(take no notice). And there are many dialect words. The text shows that the first person teller intervenes in the text coherence through the first person mark rhetoric interrogative sentence, and personal comment about the previous medical book. There are some unique expressions; `anmog-i iss-`(have an eye), `maeum-i mugeob-`(be worried), `jisig-i jara-`(advance in knowledge). (Catholic University of Daegu)
