This study searched the various aspects of successful candidates of Sangwon, Jinsa examination who lived in Incheon area(Gangwha, Incheon, Bupyeong and Gyodong, etc) in Joseon era. The Sangwon, Jinsa that were discharged in Incheon area were 288 and most of them lived in Gangwha by 130(45%), 87 lived in Incheon(30%), 68 in Bupyeong(24%), 2 in Gyodong(0.7%) and 1 in Youngjong(0.3%). The rate of Sangwon(117, 41%) and Jinsa(171, 59%) was ‘4 : 6’ and it was shown that the successful candidates in Jinsa examination were more. The rank(grade) was almost 80% who won the 3rd place but the successful candidates who won the 1st place were 9 in number. Also, 6 of them passed the examination of Sangwon and Jinsa at the same time. The passing time was 15th century 3% 16th century 5% 17th century 19% 18th century 27% 19th century 46%. That is, the successful candidates were discharged more as time went by. The 13 years old was the youngest successful candidate, and the oldest age was 83 years. As for the age group, people in their 20s and 30s were the most(58%, 168), and among them, people in their early 30s(3034) were the most(19%, 54). Searching the personal history, Yoohag accounted for the most(94%, 271). This was the general aspect we could see in successful examinees in the minor civil service examination in the Joseon dynasty. The family name and place of origin showed to be 95 in all. 1 family name and place of origin about 3 discharged successful candidates. But, among the 95 family names and places of origin, most of them(62 family names and places of origin) just discharged 1 or 2 successful candidates, and the family names and places of origins which discharged over 10 successful candidates were only 5, the Lees of Jeonju, the Yoons of Papyong, the Hans of Cheongju, the Ryus of Jinju and the Mins of Yeoheung. We judge these were the representative family names & places of origin that created and led the yangban society and the culture of Incheon area.
