This study aims to examine the case alternation construction of ``i/ga`` which is the nominative case marker and ``e`` which is the locative case marker. In previous studies about this construction, there were many cases that the judgment of the grammaticality for many sentences are different. In this study, I argue that the reason of this phenomenon results from the fact that the example sentences dealt with in these studies were abstracted in the spoken language and the written language in combination. To study Korean language syntax, the integrated view is needed. So I suggest the functional grammar to solve the problems. I extracted the sentences that could be participate in the case alternation construction of ``i/ga`` and ``e`` from the written language corpus and the spoken language corpus and divided into seven classes. The cases that ``i/ga`` alternates with ``e`` are two and the cases that ``e`` alternates with ``i/ga`` are five. The possibilities of the case alternation result from the lexical properties of the verbs. The reasons of the case alternation are to emphasize on the element or to emphasize the meaning, specially [reason] meaning. Finally, these case alternation phenomena can be explained by ``the multiple application rules of discours, syntactic, phonological level`` based on the functional grammar by Halliday(2004), Thompson(2004), Yoo(2009ㄱ, ㄴ) and so on.
