The purpose of this paper verifies Korean case maker KA, LUL as restricted thematic relations in stated of syntactic case assigner, or case marker. Regarding KA, LUL in Korean, this paper proposes that grammatical functions of syntax are different with case in Korean. Grammatical functions are the functional relations among sentential constituents like subject, object, complement, verb, adverb, adjective, and exclamation, but cases like KA, LUL actually do not assign or show any indication of subject or object; rather, they give the restricted thematic relations between predicate and its arguments. If so, KA, LUL becomes semantic roles (or an assemblage of semantic roles) which gives their semantics roles to the preceding constituents; and if so, the concept of case, and case marker for them are no longer needed in Korean grammar. However, this is not the claim that KA, LUL assign only the thematic relations. We acknowledge that KA, LUL also have the pragmatic functions of determination which determine a specific member in a conversation among its possible sister-members. In other word, thematic relation assigner KA, LUL concern the thematic rela1ions of sentential constituents within a sentence, whereas determinative KA, LUL concern the semantic relations of sentential constituents without a sentence. We may term the former as the semantic use of KA, LUL, and the latter as the pragmatic use of KA, LUL respectively. What is important to realize for the right understanding of KA, LUL`s distribution is that they behave like an amalgam in a sentence which is amalgamated by thematic relations and determinative, in such a way, in order to better understand KA, LUL in Korean we need to treat KA, LUL as a polysemant in stead of homonymy.
