This study analyzes the meaning of leisure consumption in spending-oriented contemporary society. Particularly, this study, based on the theories of Veblen, Baudrillard, and Bourdieu remarking consumption behavior, searches the meaning of leisure consumption and discerns these theories between commonness and difference. They mutually emphasize that it functions as a means to mold one`s identity by providing people behavioral principle concerning individual consumers. Veblen, Baudrillard, and Bourdieu have several common points that they do not disregard the social structure and cultural influence. Mutually, all this is the progress that consumption behavior distinguishes one from the other and performs social differentiation. This progress stands for "conspicuous consumption" to Veblen, "distinction" to Bourdieu, and "consumption of sign" to Baudrillard. In conclusion, according to their claims, what decides leisure consumption is either social structure or cultural effect not the individual free choice. Consequently, provided that their claims are true, the importance that individual personality possesses could be marginal.
