Even though delivery amounts in the Korean express service market are constantly increasing, the market is already becoming saturated because too many companies are entering it. This saturated market leads to severe competition among small and medium-sized express delivery companies and more facilities and delivery vehicles for faster service, which may result in the waste of national resources. Collaboration or strategic alliance creates economies of scale which lead to the reduction of operational cost. In addition, through the efficient cooperation of service centers, participating companies may expect to realize an increase in net profit under a win-win situation. This study proposes a sustainable collaboration model that opens or closes service centers for merging regions with low demand in express courier services. In particular, Shapley value is also applied for forming coalitions in express delivery services with the equitable allocation to each company according to its marginal contribution. An example problem is carried out to verify the appropriateness of the suggested collaboration model.
