Rapid industrialization of the modern society has caused a dramatic social changes, resulting in various social problems. So far, industrialization in Korea has brought about significant changes in the structure and function of family, followed by numerous problems with adolescents. The adolescence is an extremely unstable transition period between the childhood and adulthood. Regarding the adolescence crime cases, nearly 67% of juvenile criminals turn into adult criminals and 33.6% of juvenile criminals commit second conviction.
The purpose of this study is to prevent the adolescence problems and repetition thereof, by investigating the spatial environment of living hall for adolescences and psychology and behaviors therefrom, to ultimately propose an enhanced living environment. Through this research, the correlation between the environmental psychology and behavior and the independence living tall for adolescents was reinterpreted, and the living halls were analyzed based on the environmental psychology of protected juvenile. The results are as follows. First, use partitions and furniture to secure privacy and independent space in the hall. Second, the design corridors in suite-form, instead of middle corridor to reduce stress and prevent overcrowding. Third, create a community room at the entrance for the juveniles to naturally socialize with one another. Fourth, make large windows in each room and hall for enough sunlight and natural environment, which are helpful for treatment. Fifth, secure enough area in store room to allow separation of spaces and create pleasant living environment. There is necessity for further studies regarding better designs and environment through analysis on the relevant overseas cases.
