It can be said that an art museum is a social education institution which provides the public with opportunities for participation and interpretation and delivers art culture through exhibition of art works and finding of new artists. While the existing art museums have a function of possessing and exhibiting art works, they are now changing into a place with mixed culture of education, cultural goods development, and resting place. However, since art museums are practically performing management very poorly and require great competence of employees, this study presented a model to improve business through elements and suggestions for efficient business improvement in art museums. This study investigated general business environment of art museums, examined roles of such employees as directors and curators, investigated a process of acquiring and performing business materials, and researching and analyzing types of using or keeping the business materials and business communication. In particular, since art museums have a wide range of businesses, this study concentrated on examining characteristics of multiple businesses of exhibition, education, publication, research, and preservation. Research and analysis of exhibition businesses was conducted in terms of planning, development, exhibition performance, and carrying out; analysis of educational businesses was carried out in terms of education planning, lectures, seminars, and management; publication businesses were researched in terms of planning, designing, printing, publicization and marketing, and management; web-contents development businesses for distribution were examined in terms of development and maintenance and repair; and analysis of collection and preservation was carried out in terms of collection, preservation, and management. Research and investigation businesses were researched and analyzed in terms of research analysis, evaluation analysis, research service, and research management. The data that went through research and analysis were again rearranged through orderly and reverse arrangement and businesses were classified in terms of importance: high, middle, and low. This process allowed presentation of a rational business improvement model. As a result, it is expected that the amount of time for managing business for art museums will decrease, that rapidity and efficiency of businesses will increase through business standardization and rationalization, and that they will help art museums improve their management.
