The development of geometry was completed from the Pythagorean symbolic theory of number to Platonic spiritual geometry and Euclidean geometry. Afterwards, geometry was evolved to Descartes`s analytical geometry, projective geometry, non-Euclidean geometry and Topology at the end of 19th century. According to the development of geometry, design has represented various aspects such as the appearance of figural concept, the symbolic idea of figure, the numerical formula of figure, figural transformation, the appearance and abstraction of 30dimentional concept. When geometry applies to design styles, it is devided into two fields, plane geometry and solid geometry. On the plane geometry, the basic geometricalforms are circle, triangle and square. It can be studied that those have what kind of symbolic meanings and transformations on each design plane. On the solid geometry, the basic symbolic forms are sphere, semisphere, prism, cylinder, pyramids, cone and the classical solids. It can also analized how those symbolic forms are appeared on the design form. Also using a historical method, it is founded how geometry had been changed with certain meanings and what was its function on phases of the each times. The geometrical property of design composition was studied on this thesis. The common compositional language on the complicated composition of forms seen in recent design tendency shows a geometrical form, and it has a basis on the geometrical development from ancient Euclidean geometry to modern projective geometry. Although there is a limitaion of application, some designs try to apply recent fractal geometry to their design. This tendency means that there is always a try for the use of geometry as a reasonable device for design. From the history, geometry as a tool gives a clear and practical rule and order on the creative process of design forms. Therefore, if the design and geometry have a logical and artistical relation, we can make buildings which have a order, balance and harmony.
