This article investigates the participation of anti-Japanese war by the Soviet Armed Forces and it"s entry in the Korean peninsula, and clarifies the assessment on the role of Soviet army about the liberation of korea from the view of Russia.
After the surrender of Japan, the Soviet Union abandoned to seize the whole of the Korean peninsula, because it attached great importance to the cooperation between USA and USSR, and considered that the future of the Korean peninsula would be resolved by related powers, not a specific country. However, in contrast to early expectations, the entry of the ground forces of Soviet Union on the Korean peninsula was due to the united states" denial of the separated occupation of Japanese territory.
The surrender of Japan resulted in the 8.15 National liberation, which was caused by America"s dropping of atomic bombs, weakening of Japanese national power through a prolonged war and the ant-japanese war participation of Soviet army. It is difficult to call the Allies including the Soviet Union ‘liberators", because Allies were responsible for the division of Koreas though they actually liberated Korea from Japanese rule. However, the Russian side maintained the logic of 8.15 liberation by the Soviet army. Even if there were difference of the tone of arguments divided into periods, the fundamental principle did not change. This view of Russia makes a difference with North Korea"s assertion that emphasizes idea of ‘Juche’(self-reliance).
Therefore, it is necessary for South Korea and Russia to build a logic ‘liberation of Korea’ to agree with each other, revising Russia"s excessive narratives for the liberation of the Korean peninsula.
