Hou Hsiao hsien is a leader of "New Cinema" pursuing contemplative media aesthetics as continuously making films of native tendency examining the history of Taiwan and Mainland China, and at the same time a movie director who was greatly affecting on Taiwan motion pictures. This study is for specific examination and analysis on "frame within frame", that is, "second cadre" expressed in the movie by Hou Hsiao hsien. The researcher selected 〈A City Of Sadness〉(1989), 〈Cafe Lumiere〉(2003), and 〈Three Times〉(2005). As the results of reviewing these three movies, it can be known that the second cadre is an effective technique visually emphasizing movie characters and concentrating on mentalities of those characters at the same time. Also, it could be known that the implication of descriptive content or subject and the facts of continuous and repeated events (subject) with the third cadre method took a role of reminding more the story which was structurally repeated. Besides, it could be known that as expressing in combination of the second cadre and perspective, there is a case of creating newer meaning.
