This study conducted a 12-week elastic band program with 20 elderly women of 65 and over to examine its effects on lower muscle function and range of motion in patients with degenerative arthritis. For lower muscle strength, the knee extensor showed a significant difference in group and measurement times at the level of p<.05: the exercise group was significantly changed 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exercise compared with before exercise. The knee flexor also showed a significant difference in group and measurement times at the level of p<.05: the exercise group was significantly changed 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exercise compared with before exercise. For range of motion, the knee extensor showed a significant difference in group and measurement times at the level of p< .05: the exercise group was significantly changed 12 weeks after exercise compared with before exercise and 6 weeks after exercise. The knee flexor showed a significant difference in group and measurement times at the level of p< .05: the exercise group was significantly changed 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exercise compared with before exercise. The results suggest that continuous band exercise without any burden to a joint positively improved lower msucle strength caused by aging. Although it is inferred that band exercise is very effective for rehabilitation treatment for patients with degenerative arthritis, further diversified researches should be conducted to develop programs to improve quality of life and treatment in patients with degenerative arthritis.
