The thought of human right in Ahn, Joong-geun(安重根) was based on his virtuous conduct of humility and forgiveness, obtained by his learning about Confucianism and Catholic. Ahn’s thought of human right was gradually growing up, according to his sense of community.
Ahn’s sprit of community has changed according to his Catholic baptism in 1897 and his act in church. Before then his belonging sense was limited to his family and his village, but after the baptism it became to enlarge to all the catholics in Hwanghae province. At that time all the catholics in Hwanghae province and the poor and stripped by the rich and powerful was his fellow citizen needing to his help. All of them were his community members with which he must advance for future. And so he visited to Han, Won-gyo(韓元校) the officer of Hwanghae province and Kim, Joong-hwan(金仲煥) the powerful higher official in Seoul, and took combative negotiation with them as a trouble-solving broker, but he failed.
He has carefully looked on the failure of the catholic church in Hwanghae province due to Haeseogyoan(海西敎案) the struggle between catholic and anti-catholic, and deeply thought the collapse of the Korean empire resulted in Russian-Japanese war. So he changed his loyal community from catholic church into national community. He has separated from catholic church in Cheonggedong village and Hwanghae province, and immigrated to Jinmampo(鎭南浦), where he went at his work of educational enlightenment campaign, rebuilding the Samheung school and Donui school. And he managed the coal company and took part in the campaign to repay national debts to Imperial Japan, aiming to develop and to have independence of national economy. But he failed of imperial Japan, after that he plunged to the righteous armies’ struggle and the patriotic terror one after the other. During these struggles he put his thought of respecting for human life into practice by reducing the number of killing innocent people, and so he practiced his thought of human right for the peace of East-asian and for prosperous coexistence of human race. So he built up the global thought of human right based on common sense of community.
