This paper deals with the following three issues. At first, I’d like to focus on Yi Nung-hwa(1869~1943) who pointed out shamanism as a pivotal aspect of Korean culture and his intellectual position in the framework of the 19th century colonial expansion. The second issue that I’d like to draw upon is a relatively long-dragging misunderstanding on Choi Nam-sun and Akiba Takashi in terms of shamanism studies related with the intellectual history in Korean scholarship. In this paper as the third topic I’d like to take a strong attention to Kim Hyo-kyung who has long been neglected by the contemporary researchers so far interested in the field of shamanism studies. In addition to those above issues, I’d like to review the works of Son Jin-tae and Akamatsu Chijo to have left the very important result by means of research in Korean shamanism.
