This study intends to investigate the characteristics of the Hoengseong-eup"s interregional market system, and how the system has been altered over time, chiefly focusing on Jeoja. During the 1960s and 1970s a principal concern of most Korean farmers was where they can, and how they can sell their harvests as easily as possible. The necessity of trade among farmers ended up in various markets. In the case of Hoengseong-eup, Jeoja. ‘HwaMok-Jang(firewood market)’, Hoengseong standing market, ‘O-Eil-Jang(a five day interval village market)’ and the like were opened and formed a interregional market system. Jeoja, which was held every daybreak inside of the Hoengseong-eup standing market, has very well reflected the farmers" demands to sell. People from farming villages around Hoengseong-eup, women in particular, so much frequented Jeoja to sell their harvests on a daily basis. Along with Jeoja, Hoengseong Market became a central place of market activities. Merchants in Hoengseong Market, that operated throughout the day but mainly during the daytime, shifted their business hours early in the morning due to the significance of Jeoja merchants" purchase of goods in daily sales. Namely ‘the standing market also grew akin to Jeoja.’
Nevertheless, the Jeoja"s function as a market weakened in the 2000s, Jeoja was incorporated into O-Eil-Jang gradually. After absorbing Jeoja, O-Eil-Jang reinforced its farm produce sales function and, further, went more vibrant as it accommodated Jeoja merchants(Jeoja Ggoon) into its consumers. Regarding its precise definition, Jeoja, which was held inside of Hoengseong Market at dawns, has disappeared. However, Jeoja that merged with O-Eil-Jang and now called ‘Sintoburi Jang’ became the most crucial component of Hoengseong Jang. Hoengseong Jang attracted farmers from nearby areas who frequented lapsed Jangs, vastly expended its market network, and positioned as the center of the Heongseong-eup"s interregional market system. The biggest contributor of this transformation was but ‘Jeoja that has been absorbed by O-Eil-Jang’
