Circus does not even belong to the korean traditional performing arts, it was the nearest the Performing Arts, which gave the people pleasure. They have been together with Korean people for more than 100 years and has also currently maintained.
In 50"s, it was possible to verify the quantitative increase in circus. It is a small-scale, but while find a vacant lot of cities, it was good entertainments for people even during the Korean war. Due to using children for performer, it become a social problem in the Labor Standards Act violation, the negative image could be involved to the kidnapping and trafficking.
60"s, the famous foreign circus had frequent visist to Korea. Theses circus is famous worthy, and went back in response to the great hospitality by performing high-level performances. Interest of these abroad circus, resulted to lower the satisfaction of performance increase the expected value of domestic circus. Failed to keep up with the sophisticated arts scene and high-level technique of foreign national circus, korean circus got less and less audience due to their lack of subarctic and investments, including the popular film and TV.
