In the present study, attempts were made to survey and conceptualize positive psychological factors formed in the process of dance performance by college students who majored in dance. For the survey, students were selected from among dance-majoring students in 3 domestic universities and were given open-end questionnaires prepared on the basis of their practical experiences of dancing. A total of 209 students sent their replies and, after inductive contents analysis, 992 responses could be derived from them. By linking those responses to 6 character strength items, following conclusion could be drawn: First, the category of intellect turned out to have strength in creativity and enthusiasm for major subjects. Second, the category of courage was found to include strength in braveness, tenacity and vitality. Third, the category of humane affection showed strength in social- and emotional intellect. Fourth, the category of justice revealed strength in citizenship and leadership. Fifth, the category of abstinence excelled in the power of self-control. Sixth, the category of transcendency had representative strength in esthetic as well as optimistic senses. It is believed that these results could be linked in similar context to 6 kinds of virtue which were regarded in positive psychology as representative human strength. The results made it clear that new approaches could be made toward dance study in a positive psychological manner.
